U2

One of the biggest bands of the 80s and 90s, U2 formed in 1977 with members Bono (vocals), The Edge (guitar), Adam Clayton (bass) and Larry Mullen Jr. (drums). They signed to CBS Ireland after winning a talent contest. U2's first release was an EP, U2:3, from which the songs "Out Of Control" (1979) and "Another Day" (1980) both reached number 1 on the Irish charts. Outside of Ireland they signed with Island Records. Their first few UK singles did not chart. U2 recorded their critically acclaimed debut album, Boy, which yielded the popular MTV track, "I Will Follow". Their next album, October, also had another minor hit, "Gloria".

U2's breakthrough album was 1983's "War", which entered the UK charts at Number 1 and had two big hits, "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "New Year's Day." Their live EP, Under A Blood Red Sky, was their highest charting US album to date. U2 began recording their next album, 1984's The Unforgettable Fire, with Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois, the production team they would continue to work with for the rest of their career. The album featured the hit "Pride (In The Name Of Love)." U2's next album, 1987's critically beloved The Joshua Tree, made them the most popular group in the world. At the time, it was the fastest-selling album ever and reached Number 1 on both the US and UK charts. Three hits came from the album, "With Or Without You", "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and "Where The Streets Have No Name". Next, U2 released, Rattle And Hum, a double album and documentary film. The film and album (a mix of new studio and live songs) received mixed reviews. The album was still huge and yielded the hits "Desire," "Angel Of Harlem," "When Love Comes To Town," and "All I Want Is You".

The first full studio album after The Joshua Tree was 1991's Achtung Baby. The album was critically well received as an ambitious follow up and it kept U2's huge audience. It had two big hits, "Mysterious Ways" and "One" and a huge ambitious multi-media tour, Zoo TV. U2 continued making their sound more electronic with the albums Zooropa and Pop, which both received strong reviews but only sold moderately well comapared to their previous triumphs. In 1995 they released a collaborative album with their producer Brian Eno under the pseudonym The Passengers. 2000's "All That You Can't Leave Behind" was considered a return to form by critics and fans. It had a huge hit, "Beautiful Day", and both the single and album won numerous Grammy Awards.

Bad

If you twist and turn away
If you tear yourself in two again
If I could, yes I would
If I could, I would let it go
Surrender, dislocate

If I could throw this lifeless
Lifeline to the wind
Leave this heart of clay
See you walk, walk away
Into the night
And through the rain
Into the half-light
And through the flame

If I could through myself
Set your spirit free
I'd lead your heart away
See you break, break away
Into the light
And to the day

To let it go
And so to fade away
To let it go
And so fade away

I'm wide awake
I'm wide awake
I'm not sleeping
Oh, no, no

If you should ask then maybe
They'd tell you what I would say
True colors fly in blue and black
Bruised silken skies and burning flack
Colors crash, collide in blood shot eyes

If I could, you know I would
If I could, I would let it go

This desperation
Dislocation
Separation
Condemnation
Revelation
In temptation
Isolation
Desolation

Let it go
And so to fade away
To let it go
And so fade away

Oh, no
I'm wide awake
I'm wide awake
I'm not sleeping
Oh, no no

In Gods Country

Yeah

Desert sky
Dream beneath a desert sky
The rivers run but soon run dry
We need new dreams tonight

Desert rose
Dreamed I saw a desert rose
Dress torn in ribbons and in bows
Like a siren she calls to me

Sleep comes like a drug
In God's Country
Sad eyes, crooked crosses
In God's Country

Set me alight
We'll punch a hole right through the night
Everyday the dreamers die
To see what's on the other side

She is liberty
And she comes to rescue me
Hope, faith, her vanity
The greatest gift is gold

Sleep comes like a drug
In God's Country
Sad eyes, crooked crosses
In God's Country

Naked flame
She stands with a naked flame
I stand with the sons of Cain
Burned by the fire of love
Burned by the fire of love

Pride

One man come in the name of love
One man come and go
One man come he to justify
One man to overthrow

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love

One man caught on a barbed wire fence
One man he resist
One man washed up on an empty beach
One man betrayed with a kiss

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love

Early morning, April four
A shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love

All I Want Is You

You say you want diamonds on a ring of gold
You say you want your story to remain untold
But all the promises we make from the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you

You say you'll give me a highway with no one on it
Treasure just to look upon it
All the riches in the night
You say you'll give me eyes in a moon of blindness
A river in a time of dryness
A harbor in the tempest
But all the promises we make from the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you

You say you want your love to work out right
To last with me through the night
You say you want diamonds on a ring of gold
Your story to remain untold
Your love not to grow cold
All the promises we break from the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you

You
All I want is you
All I want is you
All I want is you
